Introduced to dance at a young age, Ayumi received incredible support and thrived in dance communities throughout her childhood while living in New Jersey and California. New to the Twin Cities, Ayumi recently relocated from Oregon after earning her MFA in Dance at the University of Oregon. Passionate about dance and education, she completed her thesis research on the idea of play and creativity being effectively integrated into a curriculum in dance in higher education.

Prior to her arrival at the UO, Ayumi etensively trained in modern dance in the city of San Francisco, and in 2009 earned a BA in Dance from San Francisco State University. During her undergraduate studies, she was selected for two years to perform with the University Dance Theatre, a repertory company, and also acted as Student Director throughout her graduating year.

Ayumi has always immersed herself in her choreographic process and has had works featured in student concerts, and at SF State she was awarded Outstanding Choreography for a piece presented in the fall of 2008. She has attended many ACDFA events around the country and has participated in workshops with Robert Moses Kin, Janice Garrett, and ODC company dancers. Ayumi also has had the opportunity to dance for choreographers such as Amara Tabor-Smith, Byron Sedens, Heidi Duckler, and Mark Haim.

Following her passion for teaching, Ayumi has over 7 years of eperience teaching in studios and schools that offer both recreational and competitive classes. She has worked with students of all ages and eperiences, and in many dance idioms including Jazz, Modern, Tap, Ballet, Hip-hop, Contemporary, and Improvisation.

Ayumi is excited to be a part of a new dance community and the Jeté Dance Centre family.
